Which is better Spy Sweeper or ESET NOD32 AntiVirus?

Hi all,

My subscription to Spy Sweeper is running out in a couple of months and I am thinking of not renewing. They do have an "auto-renew" option which they talk about on their support page. When I signed up there was no such thing and no e-mail was every sent to me about the policy change. I have to admit that half of the reason I am thinking of not renewing is this "auto-renew" that you need to opt out of. They say that they will send you an e-mail before they charge your credit card but I don't check that e-mail regularly so.

Any way I digress... I have Spy Sweeper and I have ESET NOD32 AntiVirus protecting my Windows Vista system. My subscription to Spy Sweeper will expire in a couple of months and my NOD32 subscription is a two year subscription so I have over a year left.

One of the key issues that I noticed is that Spy Sweeper and NOD32 don't always play nice with each other and sometimes the combination has cause stability issues for me. When I am running one or the other Windows Vista is perfectly stable and runs much faster.

Down to the particulars. I don't really think I need Anti-Spyware protection as much as I need AntiVirus protection. The reason I say that is in all the time I have been using Spy Sweeper I got three false positives which I have to admit because I had settings up a bit too high and it does say on the tool tips that the highest setting can produce false positves (from Spy Sweepr 5.8 build 47 I think).

With NOD32 it has actually caught several viruses and cleaned them. In my case it was not when I was using my laptop but when a friend of mine was using it. I have a seperate user account for her and her account is as a standard user not as Admin. As soon as she put the USB key in NOD32 detected the virus (I have it setup to scan anything and everything).

So yeah that is my situation.

Also for other people thinking about using two different products for Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus I would strongly suggest that you reconsider. My mother has a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista like I do only she has Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus instead of two products and no problems or issues what so ever. For her Windows Vista is perfectly stable and reliable and the irony in this is that I am the computer expert in the family.
