Last year, final released a song identification service which costs about $1.25 per use. Here's how the service works:
- let's say you're in your car listening to the radio and wants to identify a song is currently playing
- you dial the special home number your carrier provides
- you hold your cell phone to the speaker for about 15 to 20 seconds
- then you hang up
A couple of minutes later, your carrier will send you a text message with the name of the song and the artist. This is a pretty cool feature, except why should you have to pay for it when you can get it for free.
Upload a short clip of the song in question (can be in MP3 or wave format). Or as a second option enter the URL to a video that contains that song. And the system will automatically identify it and provide the singer and song name.
I tested it with an Andre Bocelli song I recorded on my cell phone while it was playing on the radio.
After uploading the song, I have to prove I was a human
And then it correctly identified the singer and song name
Most cell phones these days, come with a built-in notetaking function. So this trick should be easy for most people to use.
Let me know if you have any questions.
