COUPONS

I was purusing the net and found a couple of interesting videos from an American site called pinchingyourpennies.com.

The first video is entitled How to File, Clip and Store Your Coupons.

The second video is How to Create a Coupon Binder.

I wrote Pinching Your Pennies and requested their permission to blog the videos here and they kindly agreed.  She is very well spoken and gives us some interesting ideas in these videos.  Of course, some of the stores referred to may be US stores, but we can relate the information to our stores.

I hope you enjoy these and find them interesting.

Here is the File, Clip and Store your Coupons video

COUPONS

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR COUPONS?

I would expect that most of the couponers on here already know this like the back of their hand.  But just in case there are some coupon newbies, I thought I would just give a bit of a refresher.

When I first started couponing I had no idea what I was doing.   I would go to stores and grab a few coupons from the pads in the aisles and that was about it.  I would just use the coupon on something that wasn't even on sale.  Since then I have learned through others where to get the best coupons and how to utilize them to my benefit.

If you are just starting out collecting coupons, hopefully you will find this helpful.

Where Can I Start Looking for Coupons?

First of all, right here on Duzzee.ca is a great place start looking for coupons.  Our members post the newest coupons that they find in the stores or online.  You will also find the best way to use those coupons, enabling you to get products for pennies or even free.

Save.ca is a great place to find coupons.  They have a great variety of name brand products ranging from household products to beauty and baby products and more.
You can find their home page at http://www.save.ca.

Brandsaver is another great resource for coupons.  Brandsaver in the past years would come online only a few times a year.  Starting January of 2010 the site will be ongoing.
The link for this is found at http://www.brandsaver.ca/en_ca/

Another place to find coupons is the grocery store.  When you are walking up and down the aisles, make sure you keep an eye out for pads of coupons and take enough to last you if you are going to use the product.  Also, the Real Canadian Superstore and some Loblaws now have coupon boards.  They usually have tons of coupons posted on there for the taking.  Some of these coupons can be used in-store only.

Red Plum and Smart Source inserts are found in some flyers and also in newspapers such as the Saturday Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun.  Each province will differ as to what newspapers they are found in.  Sometimes they will even have FPC (Free Product Coupons) in them.  I have received a FPC for Glade candles and also for Pledge products.    What I also do is get to know the owners of my local convenience stores.  The day after the paper is out, I will go into the stores and ask the owners if I can grab the coupon inserts from them.  So far so good.  One store owner didn't think he had any papers left, the next thing I know when I left the store, he comes running out with papers in hand that he found to give to me.  The schedule for these inserts can be found at
http://www.pricenetwork.ca/deal/Sma...rts-263388.html

At times there are some products which will have coupons on the package or inside the package.  An example of this was the FPC for the Oasis juice that was found on the cereal boxes, or the $10 off Hasbro games.  Tons of people ended up getting the Hasbro games for free when they went on sale.  So keep an eye out for these types of coupons too.

Believe it or not, you can also buy coupons on ebay.  Some people sell packs of coupons for a buck or 2 bucks.

I sign up for newsletters for companies that I like.  At times you can get some nice promos from them.  In the past I received in the mail a FPC for a Glade Candle and also for a Glade Plug-in, just out of the blue.  I keep a separate email account for newsletters so my regular account is not inundated with these.  You can also call companies and ask to be put on their mailing list.  Also, if you like a certain product you can email some companies and tell them.  Some will reward you with sending you coupons for taking the time to write them.  ie, colgate and SC Johnson

An excellent way to get coupons is to jump on a coupon train.  Nutty Nelly is running a couple of trains on Pricenetwork, but if you want to start one of your own, you are more than welcome to do so.  It's a lot of fun and you can get some great coupons.  You will be pleasantly surprised if you jump on one of Nelly's trains.  Here is the link to learn more about it.
http://www.pricenetwork.ca/deal/Nel...ain-240606.html

Coupon trading is another way to get coupons you might be interested in.  Pricenetwork also has a coupon trading section.  Take a look at it.  Here we post coupons that we have that we will not be using for ourselves and would like to trade with other members for other coupons.  Here is the link for trading.  http://www.pricenetwork.ca/deal/PN_...des_-98376.html

One other way to get coupons on this site is to take a look at the Coupon Wishlist section.  Here our members will post what coupons they are looking for.  They make up a wishlist of coupons.  Then other members will take a look and see if they have those coupons.  If they do, you might get a PM from them and a deal can be made.  Here is the link for the wishlist.
http://www.pricenetwork.ca/deal/Cou...day-254280.html

We also have a thread called Bragging Rights and Raving Rants.  Here you can see the great deals our members got by using their coupons.  It can alsol give you an idea on how to utilize some of your coupons.

I hope you have found some of this helpful and can put it to good use.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL

I am finally back after the Christmas rush and New Years.
First, I want to wish you all the best for 2010.  I hope all went well for y'all over the holidays.

I didn't do much, but we did go to the casino.  Cal, the boyfriend, wanted to go, I didn't, but am so happy that we did.  Cal ended up winning $2500 on one of the slots.  AND he gave me $1000 of it.  Good guy.  We treated ourselves to Montana's for dinner.

Then on New Years Day he wanted to go again.  Again, I did not.  I said, let's keep the money we won and not put it back.  Well, again, I was happy we went.  I was there for half an hour and won $700.  Later on I won another $840.  I walked out of there $1000 up.  He walked out $700 up.  There it ended.  I kept the money and used part of it to buy a new couch.  I will also be using some to buy new lamps, etc, for the living room and a few other things.  Of course, I will take Michael, my kid, shopping.

Now onto coupons.  Hopefully there will be great coupons coming out for 2010.  I went through my stash to see what coupons I had that were going to expire on Dec. 31.  Then I had Cal take me on a mad dash to use the ones that I wanted to use before they expired.  I ended up at the Zellers cashout with 22 Glade Sense and Sprays for free.

Now I have organized all the 2010 coupons and will have to start hunting for more.

Remember to keep posting the coupons you find in the stores so we know where to find them.

Well, I don';t have a lot of storage room so half the time my house looks like a mini Zellers.  So what I did was go to Zellers and get those tall plastic storage containers with the drawers in them.  They were on sale last week so I got 2 of them for 29.99 each.  I am also going to buy a couple of those under-the-bed storage containers too to stash stuff also.  I mean, I don't need 10 Venus Razor gift sets in my closet.  I might as well store stuff like that out of the way.  Although, I like the stuff in my closet.  I often open it and gaze lovingly upon all my stash.  LOL.  Yeah, I know I need professional help.  But I bet that some of you do the same thing.  lol.

As for coupons, I am seriously thinking of going the binder way with the plastic baseball card type inserts in them.

Lol, Courtreporter, enjoyed reading your post and how you admire your stash! That is great that you are getting everything organized.

Running a household requires lots of things including a well stocked pantry or kitchen cupboards, freezer and this encludes all the medicine cabinet & laundry, school supplies, etc., as far as I'm concerned. I like stashing, stockpiling etc., whatever they call it nowadays, but back in the day, it was just being a responsible homemaker to always try to stay on top of gathering the household supplies. Do you know that sometimes that stash is a lifesaver when extra company comes, or illness decides to visit the family, or now, when this recession has decided to put so many people out of work, when you stockpile it is an investment in your own family and there is no better investment than being able to keep food on the table and have household supplies on hand, and if you are able to get these items on sale, or with coupons that is just a little extra that the family has to spend elsewhere.

Enjoy reading Everyone's deal posts and how they saved, that's just awesome!

Courtreporter, now for this coupon binder, do you think it will be a better system? Was out shopping the other day and really thinking about something like that. Wonder does anyone here use this system and how do you like it? Please post and let us know. Any good tips are always appreciated & these conversations are always interesting and entertaining.

Have a good nite Everyone!

So true Snowlady!

I am using a big purse with a compartment that has lots of room. I have two big ziplocks filled with white envelops each of which have a category written on the outside of the envelope. I was going to do a binder but decided to get a bigger purchase and try this way so I'd always have my purse with me. I'm however getting a workout carrying it around.

Fantastic casino news! That's so very exciting and sounds like your boyfriend and mine are similar that way. We always share are ups and downs if we go, however we try not to gamble now even if we never were big spenders. Just can't afford it these days!

However, I have some huge news myself! Sean does bet on football online and also plays poker online. He's not had much luck this past year and is pretty conservative on the games he plays but is a pretty good poker player.

Anyways, to my surprise, he entered a tournament that cost $3.75 and started Tuesday of this week. He works night security so was home to play. 325 people and he placed first, moved into a tournament Wednesday for a trip to Vegas to play in a big tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel, put on by Montel Williams. The main event is $3500 to get in and top prize is one million..............................

Sean won first place on Wednesday night! We do not have a pot to pee in but lol are off to VEGAS..............They pay for our hotel, and his seat. Then send some money to pay for our flight and a little money left for food and things............I am trying to find cheap flights now as I will not get paid for my time off work, which is tough but how can I not go and support him!

We are so very excited at the change of a lifetime. These are going to be serious poker players from the International poker league, all we can do is pray for luck and enjoy it. Regardless, it's an amazing experience that I am sure we will talk about forever............We leave Jan 28th and come back Feb 2nd.

Neither of us has ever won a darn thing! LOL
