According this review, this router has built-in Download Manager that let you download FTP/HTTP/BT without a PC 24x7.  Sounds like a great feature to me...

"...The wireless router utilities include a device discovery tool, a firmware restoration tool and the download manager. This one can download files via the HTTP, FTP and even bitTorrent protocol. But the most amazing thing is that it can download 24/7, even if the PC is turned OFF! This application supports drag & drop of .torrent files and also has the contextual menu option when right-clicking on a file..."

any good shipping deals with this?
And also, it doesn't look like it has external antennas.... that might not be so good for range..

Only the $8 flat shipping from what I can see. If you really want one I can probably toss it on to the order I'm calling in about today =).

I took a look at it... and i might give it a try... but ordering together means 1 receipt.. and 1 receipt might not work with the rebate..

but still.. i'm still 50 / 50 about this router... i do want a low-powered file server ... but the user reviews aren't too great for it...

I don't like that it doesn't have gigabit Ethernet. At the price though it's hard to pass up. I may toss on onto the order for the heck of it, if I don't use it I'll eBay it or something.

The reason why I posted this deal is the Download Manager. If what the review said is true, then you have a cheap $30 device that can download HTTP or BT for you 24x7 without a PC. If you do a lot of download, the money you save on the power bill in 5 years probably is more than $30.

Here is another review of it, seems positive.

Let's count...

Ontario's electricity is about 6-9 cents per kilowatt hour.

Let's use 7 cents.

A) a typical atom machine - guessing at about 30W
B) a typical intel core 2 duo desktop machine - guessing is 100W

in 1 month, usage =

A) 30W x 24 x 30 = 21,600 = $1.51
B) 100W x 24 x 30 = 72,000 = $5.04

In a year,

A) $18.12 spent on power
B) $60.48 spent on power

Something like that... does anyone have more accurate #'s for desktop / atom desktop power usage... Last i remember, it was around the 100W range...

oh, and this device prob uses less than 10W of power... but again, its a guess...

I need one of those kilowatt meters to check.

My calc assume it'll save 50W per hour, 5 hour per day, 7cents/1kW.

50 * 5 * 365 / 1000 * .07 = 6.39

ROI = 5 years.

If this can be setup as a FTP server as the review suggested and you need a 24x7 FTP server, this is a steal!

Dont you have NCIX 2500 pts?

I used my NCIX reward points two weeks ago, then I used the $10 NCIX GC w/Free Shipping offer just a week ago. I am out of free shipping option now.

Unlike other ASUS, this one doesn't has DD-WRT yet. I have no experience with ASUS stock firmware.

I'll have to calculate my destop drain one day or get one of those load meters. Almost bought one from Newegg the last time it was on sale

I tacked a router onto an order I have $1 shipping on. Hmm...first signs of buyers remorse are creeping in, I'm sure the shiney new toy will alleviate that though.
